Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) 2017

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has invited applications for Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) for the year 2017.

HSEE 2016 Entrance exam is conducted for admission to 5year Integrated Master of Arts (M.A.) programmes, commencing in the session 2017.

Streams Offered

  • Integrated M.A. in Development Studies Integrated
  • M.A. in English Studies

A brief description of each stream of the programme is given below:

Development Studies: This stream addresses questions of “order and change” in a globalizing world and aims to explore available approaches to fostering development, understood broadly as the goal of providing people the freedom to make their lives better.

English Studies: The English Studies stream has been designed for students with sensitivity for literary and linguistic analyses.

It provides an understanding of literatures in English from around the world with special emphasis on current debates in literary theory, lesser-known literatures and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach.

Intake

Admission is solely through Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE); the programme has a total of 46 seats each stream will have 23 seats

Allocations of seats to individual streams will be made based on the academic performance of students (CGPA) during the first 3 semesters, student’s preferences, and availability of seats under each discipline

Eligibility for IIT Madras HSEE Exam 2017

Qualifying Examination (QE)

Applicants applying for HSEE-2017 must have either completed or should be appearing in 2016 in any one of the following qualifying examinations (QE).

The final exam of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (www.aiuweb.org).

Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.

Final exam of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy; senior Secondary School Exam conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

HSC vocational examination.

General Certificate Education (GCE) exam (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level; High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Applicants who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) exam outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian.

In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the Applicant must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.

Age Limit: Applicant, whose date of birth falls on or after 1st October 1991, is eligible for HSEE-2017; however, in the case of SC/ST & PwD Applicants, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e., Applicants belonging to these categories / sub-categories born on or after 1st October 1987 are eligible.

HSEE 2016 Exam Cities

The entrance exam will be conducted in the following nine cities: Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Thiruvananthapuram

Admit Card for IIT Madras HSEE Exam 2017

After successful registration and payment of required fee through bank challan / demand draft (DD), the Applicants can download their admit card for HSEE-2017 from 14th March 2017, 10.00 am onwards upto 15th April 2017, 05.00pm from the HSEE-2017 website http://hsee.iitm.ac.in

The admit card will bear the name, photograph, date of birth, address and category of the Applicant along with name and the address of the HSEE-2017 centre.

IIT Madras HSEE Exam 2017 Application Procedure

Application for the HSEE-2017 is only through online mode

Registration: Log on to the website http://hsee.iitm.ac.in and select from the menu apply online and follow the instructions on the website Enter all the data as per the instructions

The website will prompt you to save your data on the system when necessary

After successfully entering the data, click the finalize button

After this, you cannot edit your application

The system will then generate a printed version of your application along with the Indian Bank Challan Registration is complete only after the payment of examination fee

Exam Fee: Applicants must pay the examination fee as applicable through the challan (generated during registration process) of Indian Bank

The examination fee for General/OBC (NCL) male Applicants is Rs.1600/-

The examination fee for SC/ST/PwD male Applicants is Rs.800/-

In addition, a processing fee of Rs.10/- will be collected by the bank

There is no examination fee for female Applicants of all categories

Payment: Go to any branch of the Indian Bank and pay the examination fees by the challan generated online

Mention/check your application number on both the copies of the challan generated during the online application registration process

Alternatively, you may pay the examination fee through demand draft (DD), in case there is no Indian Bank branch in your place

The demand draft should be drawn in favor of “IIT Madras HSEE-2017”, payable at Chennai and the bank charges will be borne by you

Send the completed application form, an attested copy of your 10th/10+2 certificate/date of birth certificate, an attested copy of category certificate, if applicable, and the institute copy of the Indian Bank challan or demand draft in an A4 size envelope and post it by speed post or registered post to the Chairman, HSEE-2017, JEE Office, IIT Madras, Chennai-600036 on or before 27th January 2017, 05.00 p.m

Applicants must check the HSEE website for the status of their applications after 17th February 2017.
