University of Calcutta, Kolkata has invited applications for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme in Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering offered at the Department of Applied Physics for 2017 sessions.

For admission to the PhD Programme (RET 2017) in (i) Electrical Engineering and (ii) Instrumentation Engineering

Reservation Policy as per CU Norms

Eligibility Criteria for PhD Admission 2017

Applicants should have a master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology or its equivalent (equivalence to be approved by the corresponding body of this University), with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale. Or

Applicants should have first class bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Master’s degree in Science with at least 55% marks in aggregate. However, they have to pass through entrance test.

Selection Process

The admission procedure consists of an admission test followed by interview for applicants successful in the same.

The applicants qualified in the written test will have to appear for an interview with a PPT presentation on proposed area of research for final selection.

Entrance Exam Details

The PhD entrance test will be of Multiple Choice Question type and Short answer question type.

The examination will be of 1 hour duration.

The questions of the Entrance Test will, in general, cover topics of Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, basics of Physics, Electronics and Computer Science, circuit theory and Engineering mathematics.

At the most 20 applicants (in concurrence with the reservation policy) will be enrolled in the year 2017; for SC/ST and PH applicants reservation rules of Calcutta University applies.

Filled in application forms, accompanied by self attested xerox copies of the relevant marksheets and certificates, A 400‐word Research Proposal and the counterpart of a challan (obtainable from the Cash Counter of the University at the College Street campus) of Rs.100/‐ should be submitted to the office of the Dept. of Applied Physics, 92, A. P. C. Road, Kolkata-700009 on all working days between 12 Noon to 04.00 PM.

The challan must necessarily be endorsed by the HOD before deposition of fees at any Cash Counter of the University.

Original documents may be asked for as and when required by the appropriate authority *** Employed applicants are required to submit a no‐objection certificate from their present employer as and when required.

Last date for submission of duly filled in admission forms: March 21st 2017

Publication of list of applicants to appear at the Entrance Test and list of applicants directly eligible to appear at the interview: April 04th 2017

Date of Entrance Test: April 10th 2017 (Monday)

Publication of List of applicants qualifying for the interview: April 17th 2017

Date of interview followed by a presentation of research proposal: April 24th 2017

Publication of Results: May 05th 2017
