NDRI Karnal PhD Program Admission for 2016 Session

National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Karnal has invited applications for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) program under various specializations for the commencing session 2016.

Doctorate/PhD Program 2016

The Institute offers PhD Programs in 14 disciplines. The Program comprises of course work for two semesters followed by research work for the thesis.

List of Disciplines: Dairy in Microbiology, Chemistry, Technology, Engg.; Animal in Biochemistry; Biotechnology; Genetics & Breeding; Livestock Production & Mgmt; Animal Nutrition; Animal Physiology; Dairy Economics; Dairy Extension Education; Agronomy (forage Production); Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

Eligibility for Phd Programs

Qualification: Qualification for admission to PhD in Dairying program is a Master’s degree from any university recognized by the Institute, in the relevant subject.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants having completed their Master’s degree program in the relevant field with at least 60% marks or an overall grade point average (OGPA) of 6.60 out of 10.00 or 3.25 out of 5.00 or 2.60 out of 4.00 (For SC/ST/PH applicants 50% marks of OGPA of 5.60 out of 10.00, 2.75 out of 5.00 or 2.20 out of 4.00) or a certificate from registrar of having OGPA equivalent to 60% marks.

The applicants appearing for final year exam of masters degree program can also apply subject to producing his/her master’s degree certificate on the date of counseling.

Age Limit: Minimum age limit for PhD applicants shall be 21 years, the age shall be reckoned as on 01st August of the year of admission. No relaxation is admissible regarding the minimum age limit

Selection Procedure

Admission shall be made based on merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination.


15% of total seats are reserved for bonafide applicants belonging to SC 7.5% for ST 27% OBC and 3% for PH subject to their being otherwise eligible; 02% seats are reserved for remote and under privileged states/UTs (UPS).

The reservation of seats amongst the SC/ST categories is interchangeable if sufficient number of applicants is not available in a given subject as per merit-rank in exam.

The sale of Information Bullletins including application forms is arranged by the ICAR through Registrars of State Agricultural Universities and Deemed Universities of ICAR.

In case of SC/ST applicant, a certificate from a first class Magistrate of a District/Competent Authority indicating that the applicant belongs to a particular SC/ST category, which is included in the latest list, appended to the constitution of India, SC/ST Rs.1950. Application without such certificate will be considered against unreserved seats only.

Three recent passport size photographs duly attested should be affixed at appropriate place of the application/Admit Card.

The completed form may be submitted to the Academic Coordinator, University Office, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal-132001.
